What makes a vacation curated? When you intentionally location scout, buy props and style outfits that fit the scene you dream of. For me, curating my vacations and my life make me happy, and it allows me to document and photograph the exact visions I have in mind for living my life in it's most beautiful form. It all started with a cosmetic colored vintage slip dress I nabbed in Connecticut. When the slip dress trend recently swept the Spring & Fall runways, I knew I had to recreate this beautiful piece in my own way. I envisioned a silky pink slip on the beach accompanied by a grungy straw hat. It immediately reminded me of Kate Moss's youthful beach shots, most of them done by Testino.
I also used a new striped sweater tank by Rachel Rachel Roy, knowing it would stand out perfectly under some palms. My inspiration starts with fashion that I want to physically curate with scenery, and then I look for opportunities to start documenting!
All of which leads me to this post and my most recent trip. While spending a week in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina my goal was to curate my trip to be visually enticing and a desirable place to visit. Along the way, I captured some beach and lifestyle shots, and what my day-to-day truly looked like. I woke up each morning, brewed a fresh cup of coffee, went location scouting and bought some props. This led me to buying a $20 lobster raft at the souvenir store (dedicated, I know). I also found this awesome woven tapestry blanket for $12! It was the perfect dreamy & purple prop that brought my Pinterest dreams to life. I even dragged the wicker chair down from the living room and propped it in the sand. Shamelessly curate, or go home. The Zara lookbook for Spring 16 also may have given me some bold motivation to drag furniture down to the beach!
If you're ever in town, I definitely recommend Sea Captain's House for lobster and Moscow mules, as well as Rockefellers Raw Bar for happy hour oysters. I killed 18 each night, two nights in a row (also dedicated, I know).
Hope this serves as colorful inspiration for your next beach getaway.
