The Art of Staycations: Living in a new place physically, instead of vicariously, for a short period of time where new opportunities are bound to blossom for your lifestyle & wellbeing.
Staycations are the perfect opportunity for creating new rituals due to being in an unfamiliar and inspiring place.
Workout even if you are not a fitness guru - challenge yourself to take a yoga class or go for a run in your new territory. The magic happens outside of your comfort zone. Fresh and sweaty endorphins in a new place bring a feeling of awareness and inspiration in the present moment!
Tips for a rejuvenating staycation:
1) bring your girlfriends!
2) choose a beautiful space
3) bring your camera (document your experiences)
4) Unpack the minute you get there. This will allow you to feel like the space is your own, and this feeling will fulfill you from your head to your toes.
5) Workout (do it! you will thank your self for the atmospheric & physical experience)
6) Create new rituals (beauty & wellness!)
7) Bring thematic outfits that fit the mood of your new scenery
My experience: My girlfriends and I packed our bags, jumped in cars and on trains and all met at a beautiful home in Bridgehampton. We can thank our incredible hosts for their hospitality, and for the phenomenal stay that we had.
We all arrived at different times, and the first thing I did was unpack my things (tedious, I know, but necessary!) I hung my clothes and lined up my shoes as if I was unpacking for a photoshoot. This allowed me to feel at ease, and as if a piece of this experience was truly my own. After everyone arrived, we ordered tons of mexican take-out for the party that was about to begin. Friends in the neighborhood began to show up, and as the night went on we danced until sunrise.
On Saturday, I woke up in need of a serious run. I was excited to strap on my shoes and to go explore the Hamptons neighborhood I was staying in. The Bridgehampton area around me was a mix of beautiful farmland and open road with a seashore aesthetic. When the rest of my girlfriends got back from their workout classes and runs, we made an awesome yogurt bowl and put on our suits. It was pool time.
We sipped coffee by the water and tanned ALL DAY. My oh my was it heaven. My first splash of summer was an exciting one as I dove into that pool. Saturday evening, we were invited to a friend's BBQ, where we reunited with the same great people from Friday night. We entered an incredible home with a very different decor theme than ours. It reminded me of an LA compound with west coast elements and desert-like vibes. We mingled by the coal bonfire and ate grilled fish and steak. Our hosts were also incredible people who gave us a relaxing and social evening with beautiful home to cozy up in!
Sunday morning consisted of Physique 57 (I am not one to take workout classes, but I wanted to challenge myself and I am glad that I did). We got breakfast in town and window shopped all of the small and shore-like fashion & home boutiques. When we got back to the house, Morgan decided to surprise us with the vision board she had created for our Summer 2016 together, with all of the magazine tears a few of us collected and contributed.
We ended the day with dinner in town before we headed back to Manhattan. This staycation was special because it was filled with genuine and good-hearted people who always had a smiles on their faces. I met new friends and had lots of interesting conversations. To me, the best part about staycations is getting to explore a part of yourself in a new place with surroundings you are not accustomed to.
